Our Realistic Tattoo Process at BKK INK

Every realistic tattoo session starts with a free consultation. Most of our realistic portraits are black-and-grey, with colour when the piece calls for it. You bring a reference photo, an idea, or just a story; our award-winning artists translate it into a custom design that respects your skin tone, body placement, and healing dynamics.

We use the highest-grade single-use needles, vegan inks (Dynamic and Eternal, both vegan and cruelty-free), and we hold the hygiene certifications required to tattoo at European conventions.

Each session lasts 4 to 6 hours, with breaks every 90 minutes. A small to medium realistic piece (10–20 cm) typically requires one to two sessions.

Larger sleeves, back pieces, and full chest realism may span four to ten sessions across several months, your skin needs at least two weeks between sittings to heal cleanly.

Realistic tattoos demand patience: photo-realistic detail, smooth gradients, and 3D depth are built layer by layer. We never rush the process, and we never compromise on lines, contrast, or shading.

Realistic tattoo pricing at BKK INK is based on time, with a guaranteed price cap agreed before we start. Realistic pieces start at 4,000 THB, the rate is 3,000 THB per hour plus a 1,000 THB material fee per session. Even if a session runs longer than estimated, you never pay more than the agreed maximum.

Realism captures a subject as the eye sees it, accurate proportions, natural shading, recognisable likeness. Hyperrealism pushes further: 3D depth, photographic detail, illusion of texture (skin pores, fur, wet eyes). Both are technically demanding; hyperrealism typically requires more sessions and a senior artist.

How do I prepare for a realistic tattoo session?

Sleep 8 hours the night before, eat a full meal within two hours of your appointment, hydrate well, and avoid alcohol for 24 hours pre-session. Wear loose clothing that exposes the tattoo area. Bring snacks and a phone charger, long sessions burn calories fast. If you take any medication, including blood thinners such as aspirin or ibuprofen, ask your doctor before your session.
